Dowdeswell is renowned in the UK for its high-quality, durable, and straightforward ploughs and other farming equipment.
Machinery production began in 1971, initiated by Warwickshire farmer Rodger Dowdeswell, who built on the successful design of a linkage for mounting ploughs to a tracklayer. Rodger's prototype revolutionised farming efforts locally by significantly improving ploughing results on heavy clay loam—a method still in use today.
Over the next 44 years, Dowdeswell expanded its range of plough products and ventured into manufacturing discs and power harrows. They even established a sister company to produce spare parts. The company ceased operations in 2015, followed by the spare parts company five years later.
Despite this, the exceptional longevity of Dowdeswell machines and support from an independent company, Dowdeswell Parts, ensures that many farmers continue to buy, use, and maintain these remarkable machines.
Dowdeswell produced a selection of quality ploughs, available second hand from AMTEC. The Dowdeswell DP7 is always a popular model, and is the original standard in cultivating large quantities of soil. Dowdeswell disc harrows are also popular across the country for use on farmland.
